Renewable Energy Numbers for 2010 aug 21, 2011
According to REN21, the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st century, renewable energy (RE) supplied 16% of global final energy consumption and almost 20% of electricity production in 2010.
Global investment in renewable energy increased more than 20% to US$211 billion. The number of PV panels more than doubled, while wind energy accounted for most of the electricity capacity.
Top five countries for renewable energy capacity were (excluding hydropower):
The US
China
Germany
Spain
India
In the EU, renewable energy accounted for about 41% of new installed electricity capacity.
As a result the EU targets 2010 for wind, solar PV, CSP, solar heating and heat pumps have been exceeded.
