Environmental preservation in Spain
Environmental preservation in Spain jun 05, 2013

Spain knows that environmental preservation is a global matter, which is why it has been included in several protection programmes.
To preserve its wetlands, Spain participates in the Ramsar Agreement List with 68 classified spaces. Agreements are also in place within the framework of the European Birds Directive and different marine areas have been designated as protected areas within the Mediterranean Action Plan.

Likewise, the UNESCO protection programmes, under the World Heritage Convention, have included four Spanish National Parks, which are Doñana, Garajonay (in La Gomera), Teide (Tenerife) and Monte Perdido (in The Pyrenees). Also, the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme by UNESCO has included 42 biosphere reserves located within the Spanish territory.
